Vocal Intro:
· Have a funny start with a joke or something comedic
· Introduce band, its biography, one fact about the band
Script of vocal intro:
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, (I am here live from a location in the world), welcome to another edition Radio Jamming with your host today, Ms. Jenny Park and Ms. Sophia Hallqvist ( why don’t we come up with creative names for us?). Hope you guys are having a swell day because In today we will be highlighting the amazingness of the song “Misread” by the band Kings of Convenience. Kings of Convenience. This band is an indie folk-pop duo from Bergen, Norway with the two members Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe. This musical group is known for their delicate tunes, calming voices, and complex and intreagin guitar melodies. Øye and Bøe both compose and sing the songs. (cite)
Today’s Highlights:
· Talk about the band and keep the audience engaged by talking about some jokes of the band
· Talk about their awards and accomplishments
Sophia: So jenny what do you know about the band Kings of convenience?
Jenny: Well, according to … (a resource I found) Øye and Bøe met at school in a class and have played together since. Did you know their first musical collaboration was a comedic rap about a teacher? Ever since they were small, they had a musical career infront of them.
Sophia: oh jenny, that’s not all. There is so much more to it than that. At age 16, they made the band called Kings duo. After a short period of living in London in 2001, they released their first real album called Quiet Is the New Loud. The album was produced by the great Coldplay! The album was so succesful that they even lent their name to a small band in the world of pop.
Jenny: Well lets hear part of the song and see how great it actually is
Middle:
· Play the beginning of the song that fades into the chorus
· Talk about what kind of song it is, and where you would listen to it, etc
· Talk about melody
· Recommend this song
Jenny: Well this was a lovely song, wasn’t it?
Sophia: This song is just great, I have to agree with jenny on this one. Sarah Mohamed from India thinks this song is very chill and I can listen to it in the background while doing work or about to sleep or something.
Jenny: This song is very relaxing, I would have agree with sarah. Its melody is very soothing. When I hear this song, I picture a family playing at the beach in an evening, I feel this song can be played in everyone. From working to sleeping. So if you haven’t heard this song yet, hear it now, it for everything even for sport.
Sophia: Yes, I agree I would also recommend this song to you being played at a goodbye party. It would be the perfect indie folk-pop dou song.
Jenny: i also hear a lot of guitar on this song. now why dont we listen to some of the nice guitar tunes?
Segment 1:
· (Play chorus of the song) Talk about literary devices and the meaning to the podcast speakers, let the listener hear the lyrics that you just referenced, that’s what makes the song good
Jenny: Now that you’ve just heard the song, do you understand the meaning behind it? What the song “Misunderstood” is about? What parts of the lyrics do you think makes it a good song?
Sophia: Well when i first began to analyze the lyrics and here is what i came up with. This song is about a special Someone who likes someone else, but she just wants to be friends. its in the lyrics!
( play lyrics)
If you wanna be my friend
Please do not expect me to
Wrap it up and keep it there
Sophia: What the author is trying to say is that the one he loves wants to be only friends but he is telling the loved one not to expect to keep it at that and be satisfied with just being friends.
Jenny: Yes, that is what I had also interpreted from the lyrics. This part of the lyrics is also interesting.
(plays lyrics)
A friend is not a means
You utilize to get somewhere
Somehow I didn't notice
friendship is an end
Sophia: Yes, that is exactly what I thought. One of my favorite lines in the song is when the band sang:
(play lyrics)
"The ones who made a difference
By withstanding the indifference"
Sophia: I think this means that the guy made a difference by acting indifferent, so maybe he was trying to speak his mind and she misread it. Ah! I think this is why the song is called misread. The song reminds me of someone liking someone else and just wanting to be friends with the other person, but because of this, the other person feels like this is “the end”, when the lyrics say,”somehow I didn’t notice, friendship is and end. I think what makes this song great is that it could be interpreted in so many ways to different people. Probably, someone else out there has a different interpretation from me. Well, this song sounds great with an amazing melody, of course. What do you think of the song Jenny?
Jenny: Your interpretation is actually quite similar to mine. I think the guy is misinterpreting his relationship to a friend. He loves the girl but she doesn't and she is aware of how much he loves her, therefore, he can’t stay friends with her because he doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. I think this song is called Misread for a reason, and it is because the guy is understood incorrectly and is “misread”. This song is about a person who is too honest for their own good and so people don’t understand them. They misread the things they say. When they feel that a person is using then, they express how they feel. if there is something about their friend that bothers them, they can’t be expected to just forget about it and leave it there, they are going to try and do something about it. But in the end, this kind of behavior can backfire and the person can be left with no friends, because even when he tries to behave himself, as shown in the lyrics, “what do you know, it happened again.” So, should he just put a smile on his face and try to forget about the things that bother him about people or a certain someone? I believe this is what the meaning of the song is. Now back to you Sophia.
Segment 2:· Convince the listener why this is the best song written by this artist
Sophia: well if you are not already convinced, I am going to try to convince you now. if you are one of those parents or even teens who get tired of hearing children screaming in the back of your car and are having a stressful day at school, destress and listen to the song misread Jan, norah, and giulia all think that this song is very relaxing. They also mention that the acoustics are greats, and the guitar style is very cool, it makes me want to keep listening to it, along with the vocals, which I also agree on.
Jenny: Me too. This song is more likeable because its not like most modern day songs like a song you get annoyed of once you listen to it more than twice.
Sophia: Ya, like Niki Minaj, and those types of artist. sometime i just want to go back to the way things use use to be, REAL MUSIC. not all this squeaky voice stuff.
Jenny: Well, i got good news for you, this is the definition of real music. It has it all, and after listening to it 5 thousand times you won’t get tired of it, in fact, after a while you will begin to see yourself dancing to the song.
Segment 3:
· Our personal connection (two different opinions) to help persuade the listener to buy and listen to the song
Jenny: When I first heard this song, I thought of being in paradise because of the guitar track and the voice of the two vocal singers. The song’s tone doesn’t change throughout the song and this makes it want to keep listening to the song.
Sophia: I agree with you Jenny and although this song may seem "down” through out, it makes me want to cry because of the lyrics. It brings me back memories of when i was young, some what like a flash back.
End:
· End the podcast by talking about the next show
· Summarize your point
· End with the ending of the song
Jenny: Well I guess there aren’t very negative opinions about this song. And overall, people seem to like this song. there are no other word to describe this song it is simply perfect.
Sophia: Yes, even though its not a very famous song, when people heard it for the first time, they seem to be into the song and enjoy the moment.
Jenny: Exactly. relating to this band, in our next podcast show, we are going to talk about a very similar band called The Whitest Boy Alive. If you liked this band and you’re interested in their music, stay tuned and don’t miss out on our next podcast!
Sophia: One last tip of advice is that If you are having some relationship problems, which we know most of you are. Buy this song. It was meant just for you.
song fades away

Collaboration and feedback video and reflection
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJKrCn1CRYg&feature=youtu.be
Reflection Questions to Post on Your Blog
1.
What ideas from today's session could you CONNECT with? Perhaps
think about what you already knew about proof reading and collaboration to
respond to this question.
From todays lesson I can defiantly connect with the idea that when
you write on a blog, you are writing to a public audience and never only you
teacher. So when you receive feedback from the audience you are writing to it
really helps you begging to notice what they are looking for in your writing. I
could certainly connect with the idea that the Hardest thing is to get
feedback from audience, sometimes you want someone to be just as excided as us,
but most times they aren’t,
2.
What new learning did you have today about proof reading and
collaboration? How did this learning session EXPAND your understanding of
communication?
In todays lessons I learned a lot of new things about
collaboration, and having some one check and give constructive feedback on my
work. From having you partner collaborate with you by checking your work;
I got another point of view. This allows you to think differently “What if I
tried it this way, how about this way.”
3. In what ways did the proof reading feedback CHALLENGE your
ideas in your intro + paragraph 1? What suggestions were made that helped you
to see your work in a new way?
After I had my partner watch my video, and give my some feedback
I felt like some of the feedback was not what I wanted to hear. The only
suggestion that was made, which I though was not so relevant, was that for next
time to focus more on the camera, and not so much on the environment
surrounding me. I would have like to have heard something more constructive
towards what I had said, instead of just “ it was really good.”
4. From your learning experience today, what does it mean to be
collaborative? What are the advantages and disadvantages of face-to-face
collaboration? What are the advantages and disadvantages of technological
collaboration (not face-to-face)?
To work together, and communicate to and with your partner.
When you are thoughtful and give you comments and options to your partner. You
also get different points of views. I didn’t like giving peer review through a
computer, because I don’t like filming my self, its awards, and its UN
comfortable. Face to face vs. computer (one way communications), has a great
difference. When you speak to some one
face to face, you can see there emotion, just like you can see there. You can’t
see a computers emotion, so it’s weird and UN normal for you to talk to a
computer with emotion.

The Wanted Glad You Came
The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I'm glad you came
You cast a spell on me, spell on me
You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me
And I decided you look well on me, well on me
So let's go somewhere no one else can see, you and me
Turn the lights out now
Now I'll take you by the hand
Hand you another drink
Drink it if you can
Can you spend a little time,
Time is slipping away,
Away from us so stay,
Stay with me I can make,
Make you glad you came
The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I'm glad you came
I'm glad you came
You cast a spell on me, spell on me
You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me

The first and second paragraph for " the wanted"
"Glad you came"
Based on the complete lyric of the song above, I think
the main idea of the song The Wanted's “Glad You Came” tells us about a man's
excitement in his first date with a girl he has been crushing on. All the lyric
lines show how excited he is. The theme of this song is shown through
paraphrasing, connotation, and tone.
As explicitly stated in the title, the man is so glad
that the girl came. But, what makes him so glad? Is it just the girl's coming?
It's the girl's coming, which make him so glad. It's something indicated with
her coming which makes him excited. Based on the line 'my universe will never
be the same' I guess it indicates that she responds positively to his love or
in another word she accepts his love. Yes, his universe will never be the same
since from then on he is not be lonely anymore. He has a girlfriend.
In the second verse, the man expresses his admiration to
the girl, which is commonly done by who is falling in love and having new
romantic relationship. He adores her so much that he feels like under her
spell. He is crushing on her so much that when she shows positive response, she
feels like the sky fell on him. And finally, knowing that the girl accepts his
love, he has gut to ask her go somewhere just both of them.
Meanwhile, if you want to know what the man is doing in
their first date, you can see it clearly in the third verse. Just like you and
me, in this very first date the man is trying to convince her that her decision
to accept his love is not a mistake. It seems to me that this is a kind of
promise.

Dust in the wind - Kansas
Link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0zSB2WEtwU
Lyrics:
I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Oh, ho, ho
Now, don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, and all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
Lyrics:
I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind

Dust in the wind

Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
Kansas’s
“Dust in the Wind” reveals the whole "circle of life" concept. One
day you will die and your body will break down into dust over time that is all
that we are. This image is illustrated though the bands structure, connotation,
and tone.
In “Dust in the Wind” connotation, (verb) emphasizes about
how life ends where it begins. The entire song is a metaphor comparing life to
dust. For example ““All we are is dust
in the wind” draw a comparison between humanity and particles of dust blowing
around. This serves to reinforce the eternal nature of mankind, creating a
sense of no shape in the mind of the listener. The metaphor in the song can
also reinforce other ideas too, such as the association of people with dust as
a way to produce the phrase “ashes to ashes, dust to dust” in the mind of a
listener, which is often spoken at a funeral.
In the beginning of the song it shows a great use of imagery.
When the band writes, “ all my dreams pass before my eyes a curiosity, dust in
the wind, all we are is dust in the wind.” After reading these first two
stanzas the image you should begetting is someone dying. When someone dies, you
realize all the things you didn’t get to do in your life. Your dreams you wish
you could have done, you can no longer do, because you have no returned to a
place where you came from, a place where you can no longer live or have a life.
You are now dusting in the wind.
In the middle of the song the band states, “all we do,
crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see, dust in the wind, all we are is
dust in the wind.” Here you can see that the bands use of imagery reflects back
to the theme. You go though life, but when you die, all you did crumbles back
into the wind as nothing, which is what you started as. This clearly explains
how life is there actually is a circle of life. How everything is all connected. The band tries to explain in
their lyrics that you started as just a grain in the dust, as a baby.
Towards the ending of the song, in the last stanza the band
uses metaphors to makes the theme of the song more clear. In the lines “ dust
in the wind, we are all dust on the wind, dust in the wind, EVERYTHING is dust
in the wind” I think that the band is trying to say that, you start off what
you end with. That even though you had a great life, when you die you has
nothing, you are simply dust.
How many paragraphs? What exactly do we need to explain in
each paragraph? Do we relate what we are explaining back to the theme in each
paragraph?
